SEMPAI NORM EDWARDS

Sempai Norm has been training various forms of martial arts in his life.

Born in a rough neighborhood and needing to defend himself against bigotry, he learned early to defend himself.

He spent five years in the Canadian Armed Forces as a signal man with the engineers. He took a pause to be in the airborne and learned hand to hand combat. In 1979 he studied Shotokan karate in Alma (Lac Saint-Jean) for a short period to then go back in the forces. In the early 80's, Norm studied Kyokushin with Shihan Daniel Gauthier and Shihan Roman Szyrajew for a short period but due to his busy scheduled had to stop.
In the 90's, Norm studied Kung Fu (Chow Gar) from Sifu Teddy until the training center closed.

In 2005, at the age of 46, Norm went back in training at Seishin Dojo and received his 2nd kyu on May 10, 2008, at the exact date of his 50th birthday.

Since then, he as been a teaching kids with lower belts (white and orange), sometimes teaches the advanced teenagers. Mostly, he assists the teachers in most of the classes. He has coached many of the students for various tournaments and himself came in 2nd in his first kata competition in April 2009 performing a 3rd dan kata: Seienchin.

Norm is proud to have founded the precision kata team "Phantoms".
