Shihan
Bertrand was introduced to martial arts at the age of 11 when he
participated in Judo classes.
In the early 80's, while living in Gatineau, he trained in Shotokan
karate with Sensei Denis Beaudoin. After a few years in Gatineau,
he moved back to the Montreal area.
This is when he started Kyokyshin and has not stopped since. His
first exposure was with Sensei Chouinard. As that dojo closed,
he joined with Shihan Pierre Latour in St-Léonard where he trained for
more that 15 years and with whom he reveived his 3rd dan.
He also practiced Kobudo from Okinawa for more than 10 years with
Shihan Pierre Latour and Shihan André Coulombe, and still practices it
on his own.
In 1999, after Shihan Pierre Latour's dojo burned down, he met Shihan
Roman Szyrajew and has been training with him since.
In 2000, he redid sucessfully the grading for 3rd dan (certificate #
F3050), and in 2003, he
received his 4th dan (certificate # F4034). He also received is
International Judge certificat from Japan (certificate #0054) in 2005.
Through his continuous training and teaching, on may 30th 2010,
after a grading of 7.5 hours, he achieved
his 5th dan (certificate # F5065), under the watchful eyes of the
president of the organization, coming from Japan, Kancho Yoshikazu Matsushima,
and the Canadian representative, Shihan Roman Szyrajew.
In 2007, he became a full and equal partner in the Seishin Dojo in
Dollars-des-ormeaux.
His love and devotion to Karate has brought him to travel around the
world to Belgium,
Japan, the United States, Australia and Spain, to participate in training
camps, seminars and competition refereeing, as well as getting
involved in local events. |
